Cyril the Squirrel by Jo Wright

02/12/2014

I have had the pleasure of reading this delightfully finny book in both its Kindle and paperback version having been sent both to review by the author Jo Wright.Cyril the SquirrelCyril the Squirrel

Cyril the Squirrel is about a squirrel named Cyril (just in case you hadn't guessed) and how he has some slight memory issues and loses all of his yummy nuts until he finds the perfect, brightly lit and shiny tree to hind them under. Unfortunately Cyril doesn't realise the tree has been decorated for Christmas so once again he has lost his nuts.

A perfect tale for this festive season we follow Cyril over several years finding and losing those same nuts time and time again, written in rhyme this book is laugh out loud funny, it flows brilliantly and just isn't long enough! The illustrations are brilliant, Cyril’s cheeky and confused little squirrel face is delightful. This is a pure pleasure to read and I have to admit I try and guide the boy to pick it as I enjoy it so much.Cyril the Squirrel ScreenshotCyril the Squirrel Screenshot

The Kindle version has saved us in the Doctors waiting room, on the bus and on long car journeys. With the bright illustrations working perfectly on either phone or tablet (I use a Kindle app as opposed to an actual Kindle) this is set out landscape to make the most of the imagery that lends so much to the overall tale and is important to help keep young minds focused.

The paperback version uses cut out wholes to help us with the nut countdown and find some burrowing creatures too, I love the attention to detail that has gone into the book and that both the printed and e-versions work so well. I was delighted to see that there are more in the series and will be looking forward to reading them.
